Bedroom Makeover - From Disney Princess to Littlest Pet Shop

My two oldest girls went to Alaska for the summer, and while I was walking in WalMart, I spotted Littlest Pet Shop bedding. They LOVE Littlest Pet Shop. It gave me the idea to redo my girls' room. The girls' room had been painted with pink on the bottom and blue with clouds on the top with a Disney Princess border. I wanted something different.

I wanted to surprise them and have their room done in Littlest Pet Shop before they got home. I didn't have the money to buy the entire bedding set, which would have included two comforters and two sets of sheets. It would have cost $120. I talked with my husband about it and he said, "Why don't you just buy the comforters?" I thought it was a good idea. I had them in my cart the next time I was in WalMart, but just didn't feel right about it, so I put them back.

I decided to check out Ross for the bedding. Sure enough, they happened to have one Twin and one Full-size comforter--just what I needed. They were only $17 each--what a steal, compared to $70 at Walmart!

Then I needed the border. I was looking online at several places and finally found it at Amazon for $10.29--RoomMates RMK1189BCS Littlest Pet Shop Peel & Stick Border . I needed three of them, so it would have cost over $30. Then I saw "$30 back if you qualify for the Amazon Visa". So I applied, was approved, and got my three rolls of border for 87¢ with free shipping. I also found some wall stickers at Target for $10--RoomMates RMK1147SCS Littlest Pet Shop Peel & Stick Wall Decals

The hard part was picking out the paint. I had originally thought of doing light yellow on the bottom and pink on the top, since those were the main colors of the comforters. So I spent several hours online at Behr.com where you can try different colors on a room to see how they look. I finally went ahead with my original idea and went to Home Depot to pick up all their yellow and pink paint swatches. I lined up the colors to pick out which ones I liked the best with the border. I finally went with Zephyr 690A-1 for the pink and Pina Colada 390A-2 for the yellow (two gallons of pink, one gallon of yellow).

I only had two days to get their room done, so I was getting stressed out about it. Fortunately, I had my mother-in-law to help me. Before painting, we had to primer it. I had to buy two gallons of primer. But we got it done just in time for them to be picked up at the airport.

I cut out the monkey from the comforter packaging and put it in a frame above the bed, just to add a little more decor.

Then I painted little footprints where the stickers were. I used brown paint that we already had. So when I was all finished, I spent about $109($34 for both comforters, $45 for the paint, $20 for the primer, and $10 for the stickers.)
