My son loves my Booful Baby Beans from my childhood, so I decided to give him his own. You can see my restore on my childhood doll on another post . I bought one on ebay for a good deal, but he needed cleaned up a lot. The pictures in the auction didn’t show all the damage that was on this poor guy because the pictures were blurry. The auction description said that he needed wiped off or cleaned, but didn’t mention the holes in the face and rear end. Here are the photos I took when I received him (click on the image to enlarge it): Here are some photos that show how I took off the head so that I can deep clean it and replace the crushed walnut beans with plastic beans: I soaked the body in the sink full of water and laundry detergent for three days, changing the water periodically. I added new hair, which tends to stick straight up (just like my son’s hair). The body really brightened up when I washed it. I scrubbed the head and bottom with magic eraser. It was so filthy. When I was about six years old, my aunt gave me and my sister her entire Barbie collection (which was a lot). Over the years, they have gotten worn and needed some touch-ups. I researched how to touch up the paint, what kind of paint to use, etc. Then I went to work. I had a lot of fun giving my vintage Barbies makeovers and making them look like new. My daughters brought me their Barbies, too, to touch up or change the color of the lipstick.

I have been in a nostalgic mood lately and decided to restore my Mattel Bean Baby, “Booful”, that I got from my mom and dad for my first birthday in 1980 (which I just found out today as I looked it up in my baby album and thankfully my mom had written it down in there. Otherwise, I had no idea where or when I received it). I purchased one that was still in the box on ebay so that I could see how he was originally. (That's not the only reason I bought it.) The most unique thing about this restore is that I used my daughter’s hair for the reroot. I had trimmed about 2 inches from her hair last week, so it was perfect for the reroot.
